The term CD Duplication is becoming very familiar to us in our modern technological era but what does it actually mean?

Well CD Duplication is very similar to burning a CD on your desktop computer.  Data will be extracted by a CD duplicator from the master disc and will in turn write it onto a blank disc.

If a CD manufacturing company duplicates your album for you, CD duplication facilities duplicate hundreds in one go on towers that are all linked together.  You will find that each tower contains a number of CD/DVD trays to enable as many copies as possible can be created at the same time.

CD duplication should not be confused with CD replication.  The two terms are very confusing to newcomers and they are sometimes used interchangeably.  After all, the dictionary clearly defines ‘replicate’ as ‘to duplicate, copy etc’ so no wonder there is confusion.

So, just what is the difference between CD replication and CD duplication?  The easy answer is ‘plenty’.    The latter has a much easier process than the former where it is necessary to have a ‘glass master’ stamped/pressed to other CD’s.   Also the quality of replicated CD’s is more sophisticated when you compare it to duplicated CD’s.
