When choosing a contraceptive, you need to consider your overall health condition, your age and your sexual habits. And most importantly, listen to what your doctor has to say. You also need to consider other medications that you might be taking. And allergies, if you have any.
Options you can consider
Oral contraceptive
Pills are considered safe for most women, although those with histories of cardiovascular diseases in the family and those over 35 years old are advised against using pills. They are also not advisable if you are experiencing blood clotting, has familial history of breast cancer and if you are a smoker.
IUD or interuterine devices
These are devices that are shaped like the letter T inserted inside the uterus. It is recommended to women in long term relationships with a single partner, or to put it more simply, those who are not at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
Depo Provera
This is an injectable progestin that can work for around three months. It changes the uterine lining to prevent fertilized eggs from implanting and it also inhibits ovulation. It is considered one of the most effective birth control methods.
There are other options you can look into, but keep in mind that you need to talk with your doctor first before choosing any of these methods.
